Prompted by 2012 but already shaping the present It’s no secret that the creation of BS 8901 was prompted by the Olympic Games coming to London in 2012. Yet for every community, social, sporting or business event, the implications of using the standard reach far beyond a specific date in the calendar. At its heart, BS 8901 is a whole new way of doing business, building communities and managing enduring and meaningful legacies. No matter how hard the present circumstances might seem, it offers a completely new way of planning a practical sustainable future by realising direct benefits in the present. BS 8901 prompts users to get beyond the rhetoric of sustainability and engage with the practical issues of the here and now.
