BS 8901 Internal Auditor – Two Day (back)
Like all management systems, BS 8901 requires an organisation to have competent and impartial internal auditors to test the system at regular intervals. This course is specifically designed to give the attendees the requisite auditing skills not simply to meet the standard but to drive business performance improvements through to delivery.

Coverage within the course draws on many practical examples gained from experience and a firm focus on the pragmatic approach to achieving sustainability. From the incorporation of sustainability into top level business strategy to clear sighted assessment of progress on the ground, on an event by event basis,  the auditor’s role is not just clearly explained, but practised as well.

BS 8901 Implementation Programmes (back)
Due to the level of interest in the latest version of the standard, BS 8901:2009, the Sustainable Events Group (SEG) is running a series of uniquely designed programmes to help organisations get the best from conformance to the standard.  These programmes are held regularly in all parts of the country and are designed to accommodate delegates from between 15 to 20 organisations.  Recognising that much of the events industry is comprised of small to medium sized enterprises, the workshop based programme is specifically designed to provide a low-cost, fast-track route to certification to BS 8901.

The SEG programme will take you through the development and implementation of an management system that meets the requirements of the British Standard BS 8901:2009 on sustainable event management. The programme structure has already been tried and tested, building on the foundations of the largest national BS 8901 implementation project.  The learning and experience gained from practical implementation of the standard in a wide variety of settings has thus directly fed into all SEG programmes and training. Just as with the standard itself, our programmes are applicable to event clients, event organisers, venues, suppliers and contractors, whether they are in the private or public sector.

The core of the programme is a series of 5 one day structured workshops held at 4-5 week intervals. (This can be dropped to 4 workshops if you have already attended our SEG Understanding 8901:2009 one day course). At each workshop, all participating organisations come together to learn about and apply the standard.  Delegates are given the knowledge and practical guidance (via case studies/ exercises) to enable them to design and implement a management system to improve the sustainability of events or their event related activities and products.

A range of tools and templates are provided to give delegates a quick start.  The time between workshops is used to implement the learning and apply the tools and templates, gradually building a sustainability and event focused management system that is unique to each organisation.  Each workshop provides a step-by-step sequence of tasks, leading towards complete implementation of the requirements of the standard. The workshops are supported by on-line/phone support

As managing the supply chain features strongly in BS 8901, you may wish to join the programme along with some of your key suppliers, or even key clients. This approach forges and strengthens business relationships and enables innovative and rewarding partnerships. You may also be able to access extra discounts on the fees if you choose this approach.

For the dates and locations of the latest programmes, click here.

The benefits of our approach are as follows:

  • The programmes have been specifically designed to provide a proven, low-cost route to achieve conformance with BS 8901
  • You will learn from experts who are  directly involved in the development of BS 8901
  • You will be among the first to achieve conformance with BS 8901 – thereby enhancing your brand reputation, demonstrating leadership and differentiating you in the market place – particularly with clients that are specifying BS 8901 in their tenders such as the London 2012 Olympics
  • You will benefit from a group discount on the cost of certification
  • You will be able to improve your  business processes, anticipate and manage risks and opportunities more effectively, achieve operational efficiencies and cost savings
  • You will strengthen relationships with stakeholders thereby developing trust and confidence

Although BS 8901 is new to the industry, like risk management and health and safety before, it will eventually become part of the way the event industry operates.  SEG’s programmes will enable you to get ahead of the game and future proof your business.

Practical Stakeholder Engagement Course – One Day (back)

 On-site Consultancy and Support (back)
We can work with you on site to design and implement your sustainable event management system working with you to:

  • Develop your policy statement
  • Engage with your stakeholders
  • Prioritise your sustainability issues
  • Formulate objectives and targets
  • Select appropriate key performance indicators.

We can work alongside you as you implement the system on your events and event related activities to help identify strengths and weaknesses and where corrective action is needed.
We can help you implement monitoring, measuring and auditing processes and help you complete your management system audit and management reviews.

Preparing for Certification (back)
Certification can be an expensive and drawn out process. SEG can help you find a third party certification body that best suits your needs and help you through the application process. This can be especially helpful whether this is your first certification or whether your organisation is already registered for ISO 9000, ISO 14001 or OHSAS 18001.

However, as with all such external assessments, it is important to ensure that you are well prepared, understand how you are affected by the policies of the certification body you have chosen and have ensured that all the necessary evidence is available.

SEG can undertake a final audit of your system prior to certification to identify any outstanding issues.  By correcting any outstanding issues, you will get to understand what an external auditor will be looking for as well as helping to ensure a smooth and trouble free certification process.
